Who is behind it
Unibet is the brand Kindred Group started with in 1997, and the group grew around it. Today Kindred is a Malta-based subsidiary of FDJ United, the French lottery group, which bought it in October 2024 for about €2.5bn. Since then Kindred has left markets without a local licence, such as Norway and Poland.

Fines and regulator actions
The Unibet name appears on many cases in our data. In the UK, Platinum Gaming Limited paid £2,937,599 in March 2023 and was fined £10 million in October 2025. In the Netherlands, Optdeck Service Ltd (Unibet NL) was fined €400,000 in December 2024 for letting Cruks-registered players gamble, and €4 million in December 2025 for duty-of-care failures. In May 2025 Australia's ACMA fined BetChoice Corporation (Unibet) A$1,014,120 for failing to close 954 accounts of BetStop-registered customers. In August 2022 Ontario's AGCO fined Unibet ON Inc. CAD 48,000 over welcome-offer ads. The group total is 14.
